The saying about image being everything obviously shouldn't be taken literally for most things, but most people like to put at least a little effort into their own personal style. How you wear your clothes and do your hair help create your own style, as do the accessories you choose to add to the overall appearance. If you wear eyeglasses, you have an opportunity match the style and color of the frames to your own personal style. The primary function of glasses is to correct your vision issues, and once that element has been addressed it's just a matter of matching the actual eyeglasses to your look.

Consider your lifestyle and the types of activities you like to engage in on a regular basis when deciding on eyeglasses. Think of your job, hobbies, sports or other activities where the type of eyeglasses you're wearing may impact your style. Many people like to keep two or even three pairs of eyeglasses that suit different types of occasions. The pair of glasses you wear to the office may differ quite a bit from the pair you'd wear to a cocktail party. If you're involved in the business world in a serious capacity, a pair of conservative frames will work best with your style to convey confidence and trust among your colleagues. Eyeglasses with oval shapes, rectangles or almonds in conservative colors like brown, gray or black are always a good choice for business.

If you're in a more creative type occupation or lifestyle, modern shapes and designs will help to call attention to your creative side. Eyeglasses in geometric designs that have larger or thicker plastic frames usually do the trick. Look for non-traditional colors like purple, green or blue, or even flower or animal patterns. Glasses that are more retro and bring back some of the oversized shapes from the 70's and 80's also work well if you're looking for that creative feel.

For the older baby boomer crowd or seniors and the busy mom or dad, choosing eyeglasses that look modern and compliment your lifestyle are a good choice. As you get older, resist the urge to stick with the same frames you've used for the past 20 years. Look for glasses frames that are a little more modern but still work well with your own style. For the busy parent, look for stylish eyeglasses frames that are basic to fit into a lifestyle that likely includes many different activities. Changing glasses to suit each new activity in your day is impractical for most busy people. Eyeglasses that can blend with a variety of different activities are usually best for this type of person. Upswept rectangles, ovals and cat-eye shapes all conform to the function and style guideline. Choose the color of your eyeglasses to suit your personality and overall sense of style. Bright colors may not be the best for a lifestyle of soccer games or PTA meetings, but ultra-conservative colors aren't necessarily the best choice either.

Following these simple tips should ensure that you aren't sending any mixed messages with your eyewear. Choosing the right style of glasses is an essential component when assembling a wardrobe.
